A Calgary judge has revoked bail for a woman who is accused of plotting to have her husband killed.
Provincial court Judge Cheryl Daniel said the 40-year-old accused showed “blatant disregard” for her release conditions and therefore will be sent to jail until her preliminary hearing.
The accused, 40, wept openly in court on Wednesday as Daniel chastised her for twice breaching bail conditions – once for contacting her common-law husband and the other for being out after her designated curfew.
“She’s had many opportunities to get it,” Daniel told the accused’s defence lawyer, Patrick Fagan.
The accused was released from custody on $2,000 bail in late February.
She had been charged weeks earlier with counselling to commit murder.
“Patrick Fagan sought an immediate review of his client’s detention in the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta and secured her release on bail within days. Ultimately, the charge of counseling to commit murder was resolved by way of a charge of uttering threats and a small fine.”
[Notwithstanding the revocation of her bail, Patrick Fagan was successful in securing her release shortly thereafter.]
